In between periodic downpours this Saturday, the 2013 S.E.P. scholars moved into their new dorm and gathered together to learn about what the program had in store for them this summer.
At orientation in the afternoon, the scholars were also able to meet their professors for the S.E.P. courses in human physiology, organic chemistry, physics and biostatistics. Many scholars expressed an interest in gaining an advantage in these courses before tackling them at their respective universities.
The S.E.P. Program Assistants, who will serve as guides and instructors throughout the program also offered words of wisdom to the current scholars. Many S.E.P. alumni themselves, the P.A.s provided tips on everything from study groups to practicing for the annual faculty-student volleyball game.
Forty-five scholars will participate in S.E.P. this summer thanks to support from UNC’s professional health schools in addition to NC-HCAP. The class of 2013 represents 18 colleges and universities and the students. Despite their diverse backgrounds, these students all share a common interest in health careers.
