NC-HCAP has nearly 40 years of experience in providing career and educational resources for North Carolina pre-college and college students, teachers, parents and community leaders. Dr. Rosalyn Beecham-Green, Director
Dr. Rosalyn Beecham-Green has been appointed the director of NC-HCAP. In this role, she provides leadership on strategic planning, policy development, fundraising, financial management, administrative and programmatic planning.
She plans to build on existing programs by developing ways to sustain relationships with program participants throughout the academic year. In time, she hopes to create a continuous pipeline of programs for underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students in North Carolina from kindergarten through college interested in health professions careers.
Previously, Beecham-Green was associate dean of student affairs at Ross University School of Medicine in the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies. Additionally, she has held leadership oppositions at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, The University of Iowa and Howard University College of Medicine.
She earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from The University of Iowa.
Paula Borden, Associate Director/College Outreach Coordinator
Paula joined the NC-HCAP team in February of 2007. As the associate director/college outreach coordinator, she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office as well as planning, developing and implementing college outreach initiatives. She serves as the advisor for the NC-HCAP Health Careers Club.
Prior to assuming her current role, Paula was employed with the Morehead-Cain Foundation, an undergraduate scholarship program at UNC, and served as an AmeriCorp VISTA volunteer for the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Paula received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications studies from Wingate University and earned a Master of Arts degree in counselor education from North Carolina Central University. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the North Carolina Counseling Association, and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators, Inc.
Kevin Gray, Administrative Assistant
Kevin is currently the administrative assistant for NC-HCAP. As such, he provides administrative and programmatic support and serves as the initial point of contact for students, colleagues and guests in the NC-HCAP office. During his time with NC-HCAP, Kevin also served as an administrative intern and research associate.
Prior to joining the NC-HCAP staff, Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009 as a public service scholar. As an undergraduate, his roles included resident advisor in the Department of Housing and Residential Education, research assistant at UNC Kidney Center, and founder of Minority Men in Medicine.
In 2008, Kevin was vice president of the NC-HCAP Health Careers Club and received the Patrena N. Benton Leadership Award for his work and leadership with that group.
Kelley Sousa, Communications Intern
Kelley is a junior in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is specializing in public relations and is also a social and economic justice and Hispanic studies double minor.
Kelley began working for NC-HCAP this past summer through the APPLES summer internship program. She is back again this fall as the communications intern. Kelley aspires to work for a large non-profit or advocacy group, perhaps in Washington, D.C.
Terence Johnson, Work Study Student
Terence is a junior in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His major is public health: policy and management. Terence aspires to earn his PhD in the public health field.
Other than Terence’s position as a work study student for NC-HCAP, he is also involved in the organization’s Health Careers Club. He serves as secretary and treasurer for the club.
Phoebe Roberts, Work Study Student
Phoebe is a senior in the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a concentration in international business and is also a Spanish for the professions minor. After graduation Phoebe plans to pursue a graduate degree in accounting.
Phoebe began working at NC-HCAP in the fall of her sophomore year. She is excited to stay involved and connected with the organization through her continued work this year.
