Majette
elected NAMME Regional Director

CHAPEL HILL
– Patrena Majette, associate director and chief operating
officer for the North Carolina Health Careers Access Program (NC-HCAP),
an interinstitutional program of the University of North Carolina,
was elected regional director-elect for the southern region of the
National Association of Medical Minority Educators, Inc. (NAMME).
Majette will
begin her tenure in September of this year. Among her duties as
regional director-elect, Majette will work with the regional director
to implement national program initiatives within the southern region,
assist with fiscal management for the organization and submit recommendations
for regional programmatic activities. At the end of her tenure,
she will ascend to the regional director position.
“I am
truly honored that my colleagues have displayed this type of confidence
in my ability to serve the organization on this level. I look forward
to working with the membership in continuing to provide strong advocacy
in the southern region of NAMME,” Majette stated.
NAMME is a
national organization dedicated to improving the overall health
status of racial/ethnic populations who have been historically underrepresented
in and/or underserved by the health professions. Members work to
increase students’ access to and graduation from programs
for health professionals, as well as provide student advocacy, policy
